On September 25, 2024, the DE-RISK Project took center stage at the Sustainable Places Conference in Luxembourg. Partners QUE Technologies, MIWenergia, the University of Galway, and R2M Spain presented their latest efforts to minimize risks in the energy transition. The event, running from September 23 to 25, brought together experts and innovators to explore how our living spaces can become more sustainable, focusing on cities, renewable energy technologies, and the future of the built environment.
The DE-RISK team concentrated on its case studies, including a detailed discussion of the La Balma residential energy community pilot site in Barcelona. This case study highlighted the use of demand response mechanisms to enhance energy efficiency and reduce costs for residents, showcasing how such strategies can directly benefit communities. This initiative emphasizes the project’s commitment not only to validating technical solutions but also to addressing the real concerns of users regarding innovation.
The presentation also introduced the project’s flexibility platform, which leverages digital twin technology to model energy systems in real-time. This tool plays a key role in advancing smart city concepts and user engagement, providing a practical framework for energy management.
The discussion delved into topics related to smart cities and user engagement, reinforcing the importance of creating solutions that resonate with end users. The focus on active participation and the human element of technology adoption emerged as key strategies for shaping a resilient and sustainable energy future.
Additionally, the discussion touched on the crucial role of user engagement in fostering investment and participation beyond the technical scope of the project. By designing demonstrators that extend beyond mere technical validation, DE-RISK is building a bridge between technological innovation and real-world application, ensuring that these systems resonate with the communities they aim to serve.
